Under the policy mandating Open Access (OA) for scholarly articles funded by competitive research funds from FY 2025 calls onward, researchers are also required to report metadata for underlying data. In other words, OA compliance and research data management must be addressed simultaneously.
To support this, Tohoku University has developed the Research Data Management App as a single integrated platform for both research data management and OA compliance. The app aims to streamline DMP preparation and OA workflows by importing each researcher’s publication data and external funding information. This allows users to complete required tasks by adding only missing items to prefilled, known information, resulting in an efficient UI/UX.
In particular, to reduce duplicative work—such as repeatedly entering similar information in different formats for various reports—the app will progressively provide outputs in commonly required reporting formats. In addition, the app will offer features to support research data publication as part of promoting open science.
About “Tohoku University Research Data Management App” Research Data Management refers to managing and recording various data across the entire research lifecycle. Since the platform introduced at Tohoku University closely follows this concept, the name Tohoku University Research Data Management App has been adopted.
